Our Story
Kitchen Niche is a family business with a legacy as rich and diverse as the recipes we love. Our story begins in 1994 when the original Kitchen Niche was founded, providing high-quality kitchen tools and cookware to passionate home cooks.
In 2003, Heidi and Albert, along with their daughter Sandra, who was just 16 at the time, moved from Switzerland to Canada. Settling in Kelowna, BC, they purchased the Kitchen Niche, bringing their European culinary traditions and passion for cooking to the business. Their journey, from Sydney, NS, to Moncton, NB, and finally to Kelowna BC, marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the life of Kitchen Niche, building upon its already strong foundation.

In 2004, Sandra's friend Roman, also from Switzerland, came to visit for a six-month stay to learn English at the University of British Columbia. Spoiler alert: he learned much more than just English. Sandra and Roman fell in love, and soon enough, Roman moved to Canada, bringing along not just his belongings but also a shared dream.
Both avid cooks and lovers of all things baked, Sandra and Roman decided to take The Kitchen Niche to the next level. In late 2004, they started creating the first Kitchen Niche website, selling inventory directly from the brick-and-mortar store. Their dream was simple: to share their love for good food and show that anyone can create delicious meals with the right kitchen utensils, cookware, and baking tools.

The very first online sale was made on January 2, 2005, marking the start of a new chapter. In 2007, when Heidi and Albert decided to retire and sold the physical store, Sandra and Roman took a bold step. They purchased their own inventory and continued their culinary adventure online at KitchenNiche.ca.
Our Home Now
In 2013, Sandra and Roman moved to Calgary, where they live today with their ever-expanding collection of kitchen gadgets and cookware. The Kitchen Niche warehouse, located just outside of Calgary in the beautiful Foothills, is the heart of our operations, where we carefully select and pack each order with love and care.
